Technology and Livelihood Education (TLE) is a practical field that covers the skills needed for home and industry. The LET focuses on both technical knowledge and safety protocols.

1. Home Economics (HE)

Food & Nutrition

  • Food Preservation: Methods include Salting, Drying, Smoking, and Canning. The goal is to inhibit the growth of microorganisms.
  • Meal Planning: Understanding the "Basic Food Groups" (Go, Grow, Glow).
  • Table Service:
    • Russian Service: Food is served from the side.
    • French Service: Elaborate, food is prepared/finished table-side.
    • American Service: Food is plated in the kitchen.

2. Agri-Fishery Arts (AFA)

Crop & Animal Production

  • Soil Science: Identifying soil types (Sandy, Clay, Loamy). Loamy is generally best for crops.
  • Planting Methods: Direct seeding vs. Transplanting.
  • Animal Production: Focus on common poultry (Broilers for meat, Layers for eggs) and swine (pigs).
  • Aquaculture: Raising fish in controlled environments (Fish ponds, cages).

3. Industrial Arts (IA)

Tools & Safety

  • Hand Tools:
    • Driving Tools: Hammers, Screwdrivers.
    • Cutting Tools: Saws, Chisels.
    • Measuring Tools: Tape measure, Try-square.
  • Safety First: Always use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). In the LET, questions often ask about the proper tool for a specific task.

4. ICT (Information & Communication Technology)

  • Hardware Servicing: Identifying components like the CPU (The Brain), RAM (Temporary memory), and HDD/SSD (Storage).
  • Networking: Understanding LAN (Local Area Network) vs. WAN (Wide Area Network).
  • Cybersecurity: Basic principles of protecting data and identity online.

💡 LET Strategy: TLE Tips

  1. Tool Identification: Memorize the specific purpose of each tool. The LET often provides a scenario (e.g., "Which tool is best for checking the squareness of a corner?") and lists tools as choices.
  2. Safety Procedures: If a question involves a machine or a chemical, the correct answer is always the one that follows official safety guidelines.
  3. Measurement Conversion: In HE and IA, be ready to convert units (e.g., tablespoons to cups, or inches to centimeters).
  4. The "Longest Option" pattern in TLE:
    • In TLE, correct answers often provide a detailed "step-by-step" procedure for a technical task (e.g., "First, disconnect the power source, then remove the screws...").
    • Strategy: Look for the option that follows a logical, safety-conscious sequence of actions.
